Meals on Wheels

GLCH provides meals each week day to the frail aged and disabled in the community. Meals are prepared at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service and volunteers deliver them throughout the Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale and Paynesville areas.

Lakes Care
Lakes Care was formed in 1986 to provide transport to the aged and people with a disability who either live on their own or are unable to access transport. Lakes Care volunteers drive clients to and from medical and health appointments and may also provide social support. A respite service is also provided to carers to enable them to have “time out” from their duties as carers.

Bairnsdale Care
Like Lakes Care, Bairnsdale Care assists the aged and people with a disability in Bairnsdale and the surrounding area. Bairnsdale Care volunteers drive clients to and from medical and health appointments and may also provide social support. A respite service is also provided to carers to enable them to have “time out” from their duties as carers.

Palliative Care
Our Palliative Care volunteers provide emotional and practical support to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families/carers. Anyone interested in becoming a Palliative Care volunteer will be required to undertake a training program.

Day Centre (Lakes Entrance)
Our Day Centre is held every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at our Lakes Entrance – Jemmeson Street site. Day Centre is a social get-together for frail, elderly, isolated people. Volunteers assist the coordinator with activities and in serving meals and refreshments.

Men’s Shed (Lakes Entrance)
Men’s Shed is held every Wednesday and is a social group for elderly and socially isolated men. Volunteers assist the Coordinator with the activities and assist in the preparation of meals and refreshments.
