Falls prevention is about eliminating or reducing the risk of physical and psychological harm associated with falls in older people. It is also about providing older people with information about how to stay healthy, active, and independent and on their feet.
Gippsland Lakes Community Health offers two falls prevention programs. The first is delivered in a group setting on site in Lakes Entrance, and the second is one-to-one in the client’s home.
Both programs include stretching and strengthening exercises to help people at risk of falling increase their lower limb strength, and improve their balance. A home assessment by an Occupational Therapist is also conducted to identify and provide solutions to possible hazards around the participant’s homes, such as mats or electrical cords.
Who can use the service?
Anyone with reduced balance or weakness.
Cost
$5.00 per session.
